Turning everyday moments into magical learning experiences
At Kent State, brothers Christopher & Steven Hicks dreamed up Afro Panda to turn learning into a joyful adventure with 🎵 bouncy tunes, 🎨 inclusive visuals & ❤️ heartwarming friendship stories.
Afro Panda is on a mission to bring authentic representation to kids' media—making screen time educational, confidence-boosting, and exactly the kind of content we wished we'd had growing up.
From our early student animations to our YouTube family at @AfroPandaWorld, one belief drives us: every child deserves to be the hero of their own learning journey. Join us! 🐼✨
Afro Panda is a lovable, afro-haired panda on a mission to turn every bit of screen time into an unforgettable learning adventure. With big, curious eyes and a playful bounce in his step, he guides kids through colorful worlds where math becomes treasure hunts, science feels like magic, and storytime is all about friendship, empathy, and confidence. Though he never utters a word, his expressive movements and joyful charm speak volumes—making every child feel seen, inspired, and ready to explore.
Born from brothers Christopher and Steven Hicks's passion for authentic representation, Afro Panda blends upbeat music, vibrant art, and heartwarming tales to challenge stereotypes and empower first-generation and underrepresented audiences. Whether he's leading a sing-along lesson on shapes, solving a forest-sized puzzle, or simply sharing a moment of wonder, Afro Panda shows kids that learning isn't just something you do—it's an adventure you live.

Creating content that entertains while teaching valuable life lessons and skills
Building a world where every child can see themselves represented positively
Afro Panda was brought to life by two brothers with a dream to change the narrative about Africa through joyful, educational animation.

The project began at Kent State University's LaunchNET program, where students developed the concept to challenge stereotypes through animation. With the help of new technology and our passion for creating and educating young minds, the two of us continue to bring Afro Panda's adventures to life.
